BEFORE YOUR VISIT

You're booked in for a pool safety inspection. Most fences fail on the same small, fixable things, run through this quick check first and you'll walk into inspection day with confidence.

Check your pool gates

Across the board, this is the single biggest reason pools don't pass the first time. Make sure to check:

  • Gate closes and latches itself from every open position

  • No stiffness, rust or drag in hinges or latches

  • Gate opens outward, away from the pool

  • Gate is never wedged, tied or propped open

Tip! If it's been a while since anyone checked, a spray of lubricant on the hinges and a spring tension check goes a long way

CPR Signage

Check that your CPR sign is:

  • Sign is clearly visible from the pool

  • Sign is clean and readable, not faded or peeling

  • Not obscured by plants, furniture, or moved to an out-of-the-way spot

We can help! If you currently don’t have a CPR sign, let us know and we can help arrange and instal a compliant sign for you.

Clear the fence line

Anything near the barrier that a small child could use as a step is a common, easy-to-miss fail. Make sure to check:

  • Nothing climbable near the fence (e.g. furniture, pots, BBQs, toys)

  • Trees and shrubs trimmed back from the barrier to not reach over

  • Nothing stacked or leaned against the fence that could double as a step

Tip! Take a slow walk around at a small child's eye level, a lot of these issues are only obvious from down low

Inspect the fence

Walk the entire perimeter and look for wear that's crept in over time. These often creep in gradually through general wear, including:

  • Check for gaps under the fence (e.g. erosion, pet digging or mulch build)

  • No obvious large gaps between rails or panels

  • No loose, cracked, rusted or rotting posts or fixings

  • Fence height looks even all the way around

Tip! Give a few panels a gentle shake as you go, a fence that moves more than expected usually means a loose post or fixing underneath.

Prepare for the inspection

Before we arrive, please:

  • Unlock all pool gates

  • Make sure we can access the entire pool barrier, including any side or rear gates

  • Clear the path to the pool area of any obstacles, tools, or equipment

  • Secure any pets away from the inspection area

  • If you won't be home, let us know how we can get access, or have someone available

  • Note down anything that's changed since your last inspection (e.g. new plants, furniture, or fence repairs)

Not yet registered?

Pool registration is separate from the physical inspection and can't be fixed on the day. If you're not sure your pool is on the register, sort this before we arrive. It'll save a return visit!
